week9-Forum Activity: The relationship between health and safety and objectives of your organisation.

Sat May 19, 2012 8:52 am -The relationship between health and safety and objectives of your organisation.

I work for a fairly large organisation with 8 sites across the UK & with number of staff who work from home and travel a lot.

the health and safety policies for the company are all available through the internal Internet site. We have a facilities and health and safety department who work on implementing these policies and ensuring staff safety and wellbeing. when I initially started with the company a few years a go there wasn't such a high focus on health and safety however over the years as the company has grown this has become one of the companies key focuses as their aim and objectives have changed from growth to becoming most loved insurer and becoming one of the best companies to work for in the UK.
with regards to training all staff have to complete a health and safety module on line every 6 months and the pass mark is 80%. all managers receive relevant training before they start their role and are though how to carry out risk assessment and log any incidents by contacting the health and safety officers. if any hazard or issue spotted staff are instructed to report this to the help desk which would ensure correct action is taken immediately (based on the incident they work on priority levels). in the building i currently work at we have at least 15 fire wardens and 10 first aiders on each floor. all these members of staff receive refresher course on yearly basis.

I feel my company has a strong health and safety policy and places its staff safety at heart of any change.
