Forum Activity-Week12 Communicating responsibilities for staff welfare

Thu May 24, 2012 12:15 pm- Communicating responsibilities for staff welfare

At my organisation staff complete a number of health and safety and staff welfare modules(e.g equality and diversity, Health and safety at work). after all members of my team have completed these every 6 months we have an informal meeting to discuss what we have learn t and if any of the staff members have any further question around their responsibilities, duties they can obtain further clarification from the manager of the team. Staff are also given the option to discuss any areas of concern in private with their line manger.
if there is ever a change within my organisations 'people policy' or reporting lines relating staff welfare an informal briefing would be provided by managers to their teams and a written update would be sent via email to each individual. they are then asked to sign a form confirming they have understood the information clearly and will adhere to it.
Every team is required to hold a monthly meeting and agenda would be put together prior to these meetings. There is always a health & safety/ staff welfare which is discussed, for example: if there is a member of staff who is suffering from a certain condition or requires certain medicine that could effect their behaviour or needs (the staff member would have asked line manger to make team members aware of this). The line manager will discuss ways the team can support this individual , also when a team is going through restructuring or change of management the Employee representatives attend these meeting to discuss with staff options and support available to them to deal with these changes and reduce anxiety and stress that may be caused due to uncertainty and change.
staff are also updates with details of first aiders, fire wardens, facility staff and where all healthy and safety procedure and document / forms are located on monthly basis.
there is also regular workshops put together by managers and health and safety officers which get staff involved in identifying hazards and welfare issues through various activities and they are then asked what actions they will take or believe expected to take. This ensures that the learning is embedded and better remembered.
